All,

I've looked for several hours in an attempt to find out if Nebraska has a state law that requires side view mirrors. I'm already itching to take the doors off and wondering if I am required to have the side views.....

Spring is around the corner.....

You are supposed to have a drivers mirror, but you can get away without one.

I have had none on mine for over a year, and have had no problems, heck I don't even have a rear view mirror either. So if there was a problem I wouldn't even know.

As I understand it, you are require to have a 'mirror with a view to the rear' Basically, if you have a windshield mounted rear view mirror you are legal. (a box truck, or pickup with a shell for example, would be required to have side mirrors)

http://www.legislature.ne.gov/laws/stat ... e=60-6,254

So yes, you can take your doors off, as long as you can see out of the windshield mirror. (pile big boxes in the back seat, and you will need to put your doors back on)

if it came from the factory with the ability to take the doors off, you are good. For SAFETY reasons though, the more mirrors the better. There are many options out there and you should consider some of them for your safety and the safety of other drivers on the road...in particular motorcycles.

A cheap motorcycle mirrore will fit in the hinge on the drivers side. I picked up a mirror at nebraska motorcycle supply for $7.

I know I'm a few months late on this, but felt compelled to add to it. I was actually pulled over for speeding last fall and had my doors off. Since the officer that pulled me over didn't know if it was legal to have my DOORS off, they probably aren't too concerned with mirrors. Yes, they asked ME if it was legal to have my doors off. Go figure... but, that's OPD. It may be different in different places.

Even though I'm late to the party... You are required to have a rearview mirror but not the sideview (door) mirrors.

So to answer the question of outside mirrors... The state statutes of Nebraska only require sideview mirrors if the driver's view of the highway to the rear is blocked through load or construction of the vehicle. Other wise all that is required is a rearview mirror. (Statutes 60-6,253 and 60-6,254)

I was bored at work.

Old post, the other answer is that the police won't pull you over for lack of mirrors, unless you are a jackass and have another reason to be pulled over?
